Notes provided by Sten's grandson, David Stone Ojerholm
Sten was educated with his two brothers in Ronneby, Blekinge, Sweden. He lived with his parents near the large iron works in Bofors and Degerfors, Varmland, Vastervick in Smaland and Ronneby in Blekinge.
In the fall of 1880, Sten who had directed the Methodist Church singing in Degerfors, Sweden arrived in Manchester, New Hampshire. He knew many of the Swedish community living in Quinsigamond, a village of Worcester and was eventually persuaded to settle there and to take over the duties of choirmaster at the First Swedish Methodist Church, Worcester, Massachusetts. Sten held this position for 28 years and was succeeded by his eldest son, Julius. Like other Swedes, Sten was attracted to Worcester because of the work available at the local steel mill which among other things produced the wire cables for San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge. Sten married Ida Edgren who was one of the original members and soloists of the First Swedish Methodist Church choir.
The following is a quotation taken from the church records at Quinsigamond village:
" At once Sten Ojerholm began his blessed labors as organist and musical director. For twenty-eight long and eventful years he filled these positions. Many are the stories told about this fatherly, genial soul who did so much to build a strong foundation for the church we love. It was Sten Ojerholm, the organist and choir director, who did his work so well that he helped pave the way for the glorious future our church was to enjoy in the field of religious music."
