James is the father of 2 daughters and the grandfather of three. He served 20 years in the US Navy, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer, working as a communications systems technical controller. He served in Scotland (where he met his wife, Jane), Morocco, Ireland, Spain, Korea, Hawaii, Florida, California and Viet Nam where he was awarded the Bronze Star with Combat V. After retirement he returned to California working first as a Western Union operations systems technician/wire-chief for a period of 6 years and later for VTA as a bus driver, retiring after 21 years. James and Jane were divorced in 1993. He enjoys reading historical novels, history, computers and genealogy and is a great lover of animals. While in Ireland he became a horse owner and cross-country jumper; a pastime he continued in Spain with his Arabian mare, Strega.
